Queer Cinema Since 1990 18

Tutor Dr Connor Winterton leads this one day course designed to help those who are interested in ‘queer cinema’ to critically understand how representations of the LGBTQIA+ community have been constructed since 1990.

New Queer Cinema emerged in 1990, offering a form of filmmaking that challenged previous, often stereotypical portrayals of queers, lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans-individuals. Join tutor Dr Connor Winterton for this one day course looking at what ‘queer cinema’ actually is, what it means for filmmakers and audiences, and why specific representations are important to either praise or critique.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Dr Connor Winterton is course leader and lecturer in Media Studies at Loughborough College, and has previously worked as an Associate Lecturer in Media and Communications at Birmingham City University. Connor is also an active researcher, and their main expertise lies in representations of gender and sexuality in contemporary media. However, they have many interests in the fields of film and media, which range from auteur cinema to audiences and spectatorship.
