Synopsis

Adapted from Diane Ackerman’s non-fiction book, The Zookeeper’s Wife is an incredible true story based on the diary of Antonina Żabińska (Chastain).

Running the Warsaw Zoo with her husband Jan, the Żabińskas witness first-hand the destruction of German bombing campaigns that decimate the zoo and its animals.

As a wave of Nazi terror sweeps through the Warsaw ghetto, Jan and Antonina courageously decide to work with the Polish resistance and use the zoo to shelter Jews from the pogrom, despite being watched by a vicious Nazi officer (Brühl).
