Meet the Board
Ted Cassidy MBE (Chair) is Head of Regional Partnerships at De Montfort University. An active supporter of arts and culture, he has been Chair of Leicester Arts Centre Ltd for just over 10 years. He is a trustee of the National Space Centre and a Non-Executive Director of the Leicestershire Chambers of Commerce. He is also Chair of the Special Olympics Summer Games Leicester and Chair of Saffron Young People's Project. His former roles include Chair of the Environment and Development on Leicester City Council, Deputy Chair of EMDA and Chair of Culture East Midlands.
Jerry Fishenden is Microsoft UK's lead technology advisor and spokesman on the value and implications of present and future technological developments - and their impact on public policy. As National Technology Officer (NTO), Jerry is responsible for helping to develop Microsoft's vision for how technology can transform the way we learn, live and work. Prior to joining Microsoft, Jerry worked in a variety of senior positions in the public sector including as head of business systems for the UK’s chief financial services regulator in the City of London; as an Officer of the House of Commons, establishing the Parliamentary Data and Video Network at the Houses of Parliament; and as a Director of IT in the National Health Service (NHS).
Keith Ross received his Joint Honours in Business Administration and Management and Geography at Leeds University, he spent ten years running a chemical manufacturing business in Northamptonshire prior to joining RBS. Initially working in the international trade finance department providing bespoke structured trade finance facilities for importers and exporters. He subsequently moved into Business and Commercial Banking as a Corporate Bank Manager. Typically he manages customers with an annual turnover of between £10-£25m.
Keith is married to Kirsty and they have two children, Alistair and Dominic. He lives in Arthingworth, a small Northamptonshire village south of Market Harborough.
Melody Hossani is one of the founding members of the UK Youth Parliament and played an active central role for 10 years. Melody made history being the first female to co-chair the Board of Trustees between 2005 and 2007. She sits in the Editorial Board for ‘Young People Now’ magazine, as well as on the Advisory Committee of the British Muslim Forum shaping their youth strategy. In March 2007, Melody completed 2 day training with Al Gore, former Vice-President of USA, on Climate Change. Melody co-presented programmes with Richard Blackwood for BBC2 as well as contributing in the future programmes. In 2005 she won the Year of the Volunteer Award for Partnership by the Home Office. Melody holds an LLB (Hons) Law Degree. She joined the National Youth Agency in 2006 as Project Officer.
Ruth Ingman was born in Liverpool but came to Leicestershire in 1969. She is a Director of Ruth Ingman Ltd, a company which specialises in providing tailored solutions in the field of HR and employment law for small to medium sized businesses in the region. Ruth started her career at the Bar in Birmingham, before entering employment with a consultancy firm in 1996. In 2002 she established her own business in Leicestershire. Ruth Ingman is now President of the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce, starting in December 2008, is an active Fellow of the RSA and has a range of additional interests throughout the county.
Ruth Jindal is a Communications Professional with 20 years experience of press, P.R and marketing in the arts. She has worked in programme publicity at the BBC, raised the profile of the Museum of London and was Director of Communications at the Design Museum in London. As an Arts Consultant she worked across the South East England and advised the Arts Council there on public affairs and advocacy. She is currently researching a book about 3D design for Rotovision.
Professor Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson received her BA (Summa Cum Laude) from St. Cloud State University in 1990. She received her PhD from the University of Newcastle in 1996 and began her academic career at the University of Central Lancashire, where she worked from 1995 to 2007. In June 2007 she was appointed Professor and Dean of Humanities at De Montfort University. She has held a number of positions on national bodies, including Secretary (2002-07) and Chair (2007-) of the British Association for American Studies; Executive Committee member for the Council for College and University English (CCUE), 2004-06.
Professor Gerard Moran is Dean of the Arts and Design Faculty at De Montfort University. His Academic discipline was originally English Literature but he has held Management positions in Art and Design for nearly 20 years now. He is Vice Chair of the Council for Higher Education in Art and Design, the former Chair of New Perspectives Theatre Company, R.F.O and former Vice Chair of Leicester’s Cultural Strategy Partnership. He is married with two sons and lives in Nottingham.
Kaycee Patel was born in the Commonwealth of Malawi, attended secondary school in Leicester and studied Engineering and Management at Loughborough which lead to a career in sales, marketing and management. He is a recent graduate of Common Purpose and creator of Ek Maya restaurant, inspired by Leicester City’s vibrant, multi-cultural heritage. A unique concept to bring diverse people together through food, music and art. Ek Maya successfully won the bid for the first time to be crowned as the Curry Capital of Britain 2007. Further interests include, salsa dancing, scuba diving, photography, art, music, cooking and general socialising.
Cllr Bill Shelton has been a City Councillor for eight years. He holds a post graduate diploma in Film Studies, works at Leicester County Court, is Labour Group Chair and Chair of Development Control. Bill has a long association with Phoenix going back 40 years.
Ali Sinclair is a freelance business coach, project manager and workshop leader with over 20 years of experience in management and leadership. She is a Business Champion, a mentor on the East Midlands Mentoring for All programme and a Common Purpose graduate. Ali joined the Phoenix Board as a representative ‘user’ of the Phoenix. Having originally trained in software and having worked on leading edge technological developments with simulation and digital processing, she is looking forward to seeing the technology in the new centre and experiencing all of the ways we can use the facilities and resources with our audiences.
