Light the Night
Artists light up Leicester like never before!

FREE FESTIVAL

Sun 17 Nov
Leicester’s Cultural Quarter
3.30pm – late

To coincide with Leicester’s Christmas lights switch-on this year, we’ll be working with local and international artists to light up the streets around Phoenix and the Cultural Quarter like you’ve never seen before!

Inspired by Leicester’s UK City of Culture 2017 bid theme ‘illumination’, Light the Night is a free outdoor festival with something for everyone: a huge digital firework display controlled by the crowd; stunning animations brought to life on the walls of a city street; children's theatre; artists' workshops; and bands playing long into the night.

The festival has been put together by Phoenix, Leicester’s Cultural Quarter Business Association (CQBA) and artists’ collective Creative Manifesto.

With support from Curve, NCP, Chutney Ivy, Datanext, Manhattan 34, The Exchange and Un.titled

The Toy Factory

Halford Street, 5pm – 8pm, Creative Manifesto & Blend Visuals

After the Christmas lights switch-on at Humberstone Gate West, the buildings along Halford Street will become a gigantic canvas for artists, bringing to life a toy factory and stunning Christmas animations, using the latest projection techniques.

PixelPyros
Orton Square (outside Curve), 5.30pm – 8pm, Seb Lee-Delisle

PixelPyros is a virtual pyrotechnics display mounted onto a massive 60-foot wide screen using state-of-the-art projectors and lasers. No need to light the blue touch paper and stand
well back, PixelPyros invites its audience to get up close and personal with digital art by touching bright orbs of light on the screen to trigger beautiful multi-coloured rockets.

Hothouse 2017
Curve and The Exchange, from 3.30pm - 10.30pm

Music will be in the air through the afternoon and into the evening with a selection of the region’s most promising young musicians tipped for success by 2017. Soloists and duos will perform in Curve's cafe until 8pm, whilst up-and-coming young bands will play in The Exchange bar until 10.30pm.

Santa is coming to Leicester
Hansom Hall, Hourly 12pm – 3pm
£2.50 adults and children

Come and meet Santa and see this delightful play adapted from the popular children’s book. Santa is coming to Leicester will open on the day of Light the Night and show every Sunday up to Christmas at Leicester’s Adult Education Centre in Wellington Street.
