Phoenix Community Cinema
Phoenix runs one of the UK’s most successful community cinema networks, supporting over 60 community cinemas throughout Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Leicester and Rutland, and working with our partners to screen over 300 films to 14,500 people every year.
Phoenix Community Cinema provides the following services:
- a community cinema service throughout the year using mobile and installed equipment in community venues, often in areas that are underserved by other cultural services.
- guidance on film choice; procurement of film rights; advice on events management and permanent equipment installations; provision of mobile cinema equipment and projectionists.
- advice on starting community film programmes in new venues.
Our projection team and Community Coordinators are knowledgeable and highly committed to film. Many screenings are accompanied by talks and informal discussions facilitated by our team.
With BFI support this year, we will include special events marking the centennials of WWI and Charlie Chaplin’s first film. Our community and local authority partners also gain from national initiatives that support cinema by being in our network, such as Film Hub Central East and BFI’s Neighbourhood Cinema initiative.
