With great films, creative workshops and young filmmaker summer camps, there’s plenty to keep young ones inspired this summer at Phoenix, Leicester’s independent cinema, art centre and café bar.
Roald Dahl’s classic tale The BFG comes to life on the big screen from 22 July – 4 Aug. Other family movies include The Secret Life of Pets (15 – 21 July) and Finding Dory (12 – 28 Aug) in August.
Phoenix has reduced family ticket prices to make a trip to the cinema an affordable treat – family tickets cost just £5 per person (3D £6.50), with added popcorn and a drink for an extra £1.50.
Free drop-in workshops take place on Thursday afternoons in the Phoenix Café Bar between 21 July to 18 August, giving kids the chance to get creative with digital technology, making everything from digital musical instruments to dream jars inspired by the BFG.
Budding filmmakers can join one of three 5-day summer camps in August, learning new skills and making their own short film. The three camps are for children aged 7-11, 12-15 and 16-19 and cost from £120.
A freshly-cooked ‘pick & mix’ children’s menu is on offer in the Café Bar. Phoenix will also be running a weekly family ticket give-away competition for families checking-in to Phoenix on Facebook.
