Today’s government announcement which places Leicester in tier 3 means that Phoenix is unable to reopen at the end of the current lockdown and will now remain closed until early next year.
We will keep the situation under review and hope to reopen in mid-January 2021, if at all possible – this is of course dependent on Leicester moving out of tier 3 and the government permitting cinemas to open.
Once we know we can reopen it can take us 2-3 weeks from that point to confirm the film programme and get tickets on sale, and to ensure our Café Bar supplies are in place.
We are incredibly disappointed to be closed again, having had such a positive response when we opened in October following months of closure. It was such a pleasure to be able to welcome people through our doors, and we were touched by the many wonderful comments from you about how great it was to be back.
It is with a heavy heart that we enter into another extended closure, and we are saddened that we are unable to serve Leicester’s community over the festive period. However, we remain positive about the future and we will reopen as soon as possible with an exciting programme of film, art, learning and creative opportunities for the people of Leicester and beyond.
We are working hard to reschedule cancelled events wherever possible, and tickets already purchased will be valid for the new dates. Our Box Office team will contact customers with existing bookings in due course to advise you of your refund options. Please bear with us as it may take us a little while to do this.
PHOENIX AT HOME
While we are closed we will continue to offer a curated programme via Phoenix at Home, and our online courses will continue as scheduled with sessions delivered via Zoom.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
These are difficult times for everyone, and while we hope our closure will not extend beyond mid-January it does have significant financial implications as we rely on being open to the public to generate income.
We have been humbled by your generosity throughout the pandemic and thank each and every one of you who has made a donation, become a member, renewed an existing membership, purchased gift vouchers, or bought a Phoenix t-shirt or tote bag to in order to help us.
We are immensely grateful for any support that you are able to offer at this time, and thank you for playing a vital part in securing Phoenix’s future for years to come.
We look forward to seeing you again in January 2021.
