Phoenix customers show their festive spirit
Tue 22 Dec 2015
On Friday 11th December, Phoenix hosted our third annual film screening to help the homeless at Christmas – and it was our best, most successful one yet.
In partnership with Leicester charity Action Homeless, we gave away free tickets to the new British film Hector – itself about a homeless man’s journey at Christmas – in exchange for donations to the homeless.
Our visitors were invited to donate perishable foods, clothes, toiletries and other helpful items – and you didn’t fail to deliver. We received hundreds of donations worth over £1000, plus £168 in cash, which shows the lovely generosity of Phoenix customers. You were especially generous with winter clothing. Someone had even gone to the trouble of knitting a baby’s jumper!
The next stage of the process is distributing these donations. Action Homeless is now marshalling a team of volunteers to sort all the gifts and send them out to the 150 people they support in Leicester. Every person or family will receive a festive food hamper to see them through the Christmas period, and everyone also gets a festive gift bag containing winter clothing, chocolates, toiletries and other goodies that you’ve donated. Children receive surprise presents, including a visit from Santa!
We’d like to thank Action Homeless for collaborating with us again on this event and helping to make a difference in the Leicester community.

We have lots of Christmas films and activities this festive period – there’s something for everyone.
