This Friday 19th December the Phoenix Cinema is hosting a special screening of Frank Capra’s heart warming classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, where tickets can only be ‘bought’ through donations to Action Homeless.
The screening, which is returning for a second year after a huge response last year, was the idea of Phoenix’s film programmer Jake Harvey: ““We were blown away by the generosity of local people last December” says Jake, “We had tables heaving with donations, customers were bringing bags of food, clothes and toiletries and in some cases refusing to accept tickets – they just wanted to help”.
Held in support of Action Homeless’ Winter Appeal, their funding manager Eilidh Kennedy knows how important every donation can be ‘It’s a common misconception that homelessness only affects individuals” said Eilidh, “but there are many families in Leicester who will be facing homelessness this Christmas and through our appeal we’re collecting items that can help a family in need”.
The screening will be taking place at 7.30pm on the 19th and donations can be swapped for tickets at the Phoenix box office at any time including on the night. All donations will be packed up by Phoenix staff and handed over to Action Homeless to be distributed around Leicester in time for Christmas. A ‘shopping list’ of donation items can be found at www.phoenix.org.uk/charity-screening.
