Stage On Screen launch
Fri 7 Jun 2013
Enjoy some of the best seats in the house at Shakespeare’s Globe, the National Theatre, Glyndebourne opera and the British Museum’s new Pompeii Live exhibition – in Leicester this summer!
Phoenix’ new Stage on Screen season offers the chance to see many of the world’s finest productions live-via-satellite in the Phoenix cinema in Leicester.
With tickets priced at just £14 (£12 concession), audiences can enjoy performances by actors including Helen Mirren in The Audience, Kenneth Branagh in Macbeth and Stephen Fry in Twelfth Night. The season runs from June to September.
During Stage on Screen, cinema-goers can look forward to:
• NT Live productions – The Audience and Othello from the National Theatre in London, and Macbeth live from the Manchester International Festival.
• Globe on Screen – two Shakespeare plays recorded across the sell-out 2012 season at the famous Globe Theatre in London – The Taming of the Shrew and Henry V.
• The full ‘Glyndebourne for Cinema’ 2013 opera season, featuring The Marriage of Figaro, Don Pasquale, Hippolyte et Aricie, Billy Budd and Falstaff.
• The world premiere of Pompeii Live, the first cinema event produced by the British Museum for its major new exhibition ‘Life and death in Pompeii and Herculaneum’.
Stage on Screen follows the sell-out success of last year’s National Theatre Live and Bolshoi Ballet productions which saw audiences from across Leicestershire flock to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere unique to Phoenix. Many cinemagoers made an evening of it with a meal in the Phoenix cafebar and drinks which can be taken into the performances.
This summer the cafebar is offering a Prix Fixe menu and wines for customers who want to enjoy a summer’s evening at the cinema, in the heart of the city’s Cultural Quarter.
“Over the last year we’ve found people love watching live theatre performances on the big screen at Phoenix. With this new season we’re offering a wider range of great shows and a new theatre-style menu so people can enjoy great value summer nights in the city,’ said John Rance, CEO of Phoenix.
Phoenix will also be offering everyone who sees a Stage on Screen performance the chance to win one of three pairs of season tickets to watch the National Theatre Live 2013-2014 season at Phoenix.
