We have been showing a mini season of films throughout April by the celebrated Québécois 26-year-old director Xavier Dolan, in the lead up to his latest movie, Mommy (Fri 24 – Mon 27 Apr).
Three of the ‘enfant terrible’ of cinema’s multi award-winning films will be screening before and after the release of Mommy – I Killed My Mother (Tue 7 Apr), Heartbeats (Sat 11 Apr), Laurence Anyways (Sat 25 Apr) and Tom at the Farm (Tue 28 Apr) – giving audiences a chance to experience Dolan’s impressive back catalogue.
Often acting in his films as well as writing and directing, Dolan received an 8-minute standing ovation after his first feature premiered at Cannes. He has been a firm fixture of the film festival circuit ever since – praised for his daring and innovative approach to themes of love and family relationships.
Mommy is described by respected Guardian reviewer Peter Bradshaw as “an uproariously emotional movie, to all appearances painfully personal and featuring performances which are almost operatic in scale…another notable triumph for Dolan.”
