New Queer Cinema emerged in North America in 1990, offering a form of filmmaking that challenged previous, often stereotypical portrayals of queers, lesbians, gays, bisexuals and trans-individuals. We’ll look at what ‘queer cinema’ actually is, what it means to filmmakers and audiences, and its depictions of LGBTQIA+ individuals over the past 3 decades in films such as Boys Don’t Cry, Brokeback Mountain and Carol.
