From Carrie to IT, the thrillers of Stephen King seem made for the screen. So much so, that cinematic versions – such as The Shining – often threaten to eclipse their originals. But King’s works are thematically rich, and both his books and the films made of them are much more than cheap scares. Over the course of 4 weeks, we’ll take a closer look at King’s work on screen and consider what movies like Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Stand By Me and Carrie really have in common and how they illuminate the author himself.
