In this workshop we used one of the oldest forms of animation to make gifs. You can see the short animations we made here

In this workshop we used one of the earliest forms of animation – the phenakistoscope – to create digital gifs.

This 19th century technique produced short repeating moving images, similar to today’s gifs.

After drawing onto a simple paper template, we turned your ‘phenakistoscopes’ into a real digital animations using Scratch, a simple computer coding language for children.
