Beth Kettel – Casting Workshop: Gesture & Movement

Sat 21 Apr, 2pm - 6pm
Led by artist Beth Kettel, this workshop will explore gesture and movement to go towards creating dance routines for an experimental music video commissioned by Phoenix.

We’re looking for a broad group of participants who are open to bringing/exploring ideas around gestural movement related to the historical and cultural identity of Leicester – this may be from contemporary pop culture and dance, as well as gestural movement used in industry or other cultural activity. The project has particular interest in the area of the Cultural Quarter, which you may have experience of, or an interest in past or present, i.e. via dancing, clubbing, socialising or working in the area.

We’re interested in bringing multiple gestural meaning into the workshop from various ages and backgrounds. The session will involve some informal discussion as well as practical elements.

For the wider work we’re keen to bring disparate genres of music and movement together, with interest in: 60’s, Trance, Happy Hardcore, Grime, Disco, HipHop. It is not a requirement, but if you have particular interest or experience with movement/dance from these genres please come along.

This will be an informal, open workshop session looking at simple and isolated movements that will go towards developing dance routines for an experimental music video for the ICA’s Art and Screen Network and Phoenix. You would not be expected to participate in all aspects of the session if you do not wish.

Suitable for ages 16+

Open to all genders: Female/Male/Non-binary
Welcomes both performers/non-performers
We will be filming and photographing this session
We’re looking to cast from the session for future paid roles within the work
