Heather Forknell – Mægden

Sat 25 Apr, 6pm
Phoenix Interact Labs bursary holder Heather Forknell has been invited to create a performance in response to the work of neo-expressionist painter Geord Baselitz at New Walk Museum.

The artist lies on a life model bed draped in musical knit and crochet. The artist’s midriff is pinned tightly in a layer of knit – only revealing the performers head, shoulders and legs. Using Georg Baselitz work and New Walk Museum’s social media feed as both a choreographic and musical score (assigning imagery and key descriptive words to certain movements and musical notes); the artist writhes and moves – pressing their body against the musical fabric in order to create a piece of music that lies parallel to Baselitz style of quick, spontaneous and intuitive qualities.

The piece is presented as part of an evening of performance. Other artists include Alice Theobald, Maud Traon, Jonathan Boyd & Euan McKenzie and Turner Prize nominee Marvin Gaye Chetwynd.
