Is it okay to be a Luddite? Of course it is! This hands-on family workshops with artist Mateus Domingos explores the history of the Luddites and what their ideas might mean today. Through making, discussion and experimentation, participants will consider technology, labour, the environment and the role digital devices play in everyday life.
This workshop offers an introduction to the historical Luddites, the work they did and how we might think about their actions in relation to the world today. Using paper strips, you’ll create woven patterns and make rubbings from textile nets, lace and discarded technology, exploring connections between traditional craft, industry and contemporary digital culture.
