Synopsis

Benjamin Britten's gripping dramatic opera, based on the short novel by Herman Melville.

Billy Budd is a likeable young sailor serving in the Royal Navy under master-at-arms John Claggart.

But the tyrannical Claggart takes against Billy and decided to destroy him, with tragic consequences.

First performed at the Royal Opera House in 1951, this is a fresh and innovative contemporary opera.
