Birds of Passage 15

Fri 24 – Thu 30 May

Synopsis

"★★★★ – this arresting Colombian film combines magical realism with the epic sweep of The Godfather" – Observer, Mark Kermode's film of the week (19.5.19)

"★★★★ – powerful, gorgeously-rendered tribal-gangster saga" – Empire

"Guerra’s follow-up to Embrace of the Serpent is a sprawling tale of drugs, dowries and indigenous traditions” – Guardian.

Colombia, the late 1960s. Rapayet falls in love with Zaida, and to pay her dowry he becomes involved in a marijuana trafficking ring. Set during the ‘marijuana bonanza’ – the origins of the drug trade in Colombia – Birds of Passage details Rapayet’s family’s struggle to control the business that destroys lives and their culture.

A mafia story that subverts all the tropes.
