Synopsis

"★★★★ – a deliciously vampish Keira Knightley helps a queer icon find her voice" – Telegraph

★★★★ – Empire

Keira Knightley impresses in this biopic of renowned taboo-busting French writer, mime-artist and actress Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette.

After marrying successful Parisian writer ‘Willy’ (West), Colette is persuaded to ghost-write for Willy to cover his mounting debts. Her semi-autobiographical novel about a witty and brazen country girl named Claudine becomes a sensation.

With her work now the talk of Paris but under Willy’s name, Colette becomes determined to overcome societal constraints – fighting gender roles, revolutionising literature and freely exploring her sexuality.
