Renowned stage actress Elisabet Vogler (Ullmann) suffers a moment of blankness during a performance and the next day lapses into total silence. Suffering from what appears to be a psychological breakdown, she is advised by her doctor to take time off to recover.
Elisabet goes to a beach house on the Baltic Sea with only Alma (Andersson), a nurse, as company. As Alma struggles to reach her patient, the two women begin to experience a strange emotional convergence. The 5pm screening on Sun 25 Mar will be introduced by Phoenix projectionist Paul Marygold.
