Transport in Britain was nationalised on 1st January 1948 with the formation of the British Transport Commission.
All major transport undertakings were included. British Railways is best remembered, but also British Road Services, British Waterways & others, all serving the needs of the nation. It also marked a new era in documentary film making.
This special screening explores this aspiration of nationalised transport remembering the buses, lorries & waterways of more than 60 years ago.
The steam hauled Royal Scot express, working with all the confidence and assurance that only a nationalised transport system can provide - full steam ahead!!
