Journeys Festival

Sea Prayer VR 12

Wed 28 Aug, 6pm & 7pm | SOLD OUT

Synopsis

Screening as part of Journeys Festival, Sea Prayer is a haunting 360-degree animation, written and narrated by Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner).

The night before a potentially fatal journey, a father reflects with his son on their life in Syria before the war – and their unknown future.

Writen in response to the tragic death of Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy who drowned while attempting to reach Greece in 2015, acclaimed author Khaled Hosseini wrote Sea Prayer.

In the film, a Syrian father speaks to his son lying asleep on his lap on the eve of making the sea crossing to Europe to seek refuge and safety.

Produced by the Guardian's in-house VR team, in collaboration with acclaimed VR artist Liz Edwards, Sea Prayer is the first narrative, animated virtual reality film created using the VR paint programme Tilt Brush.

The screening will include a post-film discussion led by VR producer Alex Ruhl and representatives from the British Red Cross.

Journeys Festival International 2019 celebrates the creative talent of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists and shares the refugee experience through art.
