Synopsis

Based on Penelope Fitzgerald’s celebrated novel. In a sleepy 1950’s English town, we follow Florence (Emily Mortimer) and her trials and tribulations as she attempts to revitalise her fellow townsfolk in the aftermath of WWII. She does so by opening a bookshop in the hopes of rekindling the town’s imagination.

However, she begins to discover how out of touch her neighbours are with the social and sexual revolutions of the day, and her attempts at engagement win her both friends and enemies in good measure.
