Burt Lancaster stars as wealthy ad-exec Ned Merrill who, after visiting with friends one hot summer’s day, decides to ‘swim home’ - via the backyard pools of all his affluent neighbours.
But with each pool length Ned’s bravado is stripped away as his past comes back to haunt him.
Based on a short story by John Cheever, The Swimmer is an oft-praised but underseen masterpiece of American cinema, and one of the great films about the fading of 60s idealism.
