The Tree of Wooden Clogs 12A

Fri 14 – Sun 16 Jul

Synopsis

★★★★★ - EMPIRE

Described by Criterion as ‘a towering, heart-stirring work of humanist filmmaking’. The Tree of Wooden Clogs follows the hardships, joys and backbreaking labour of four families working the land in late nineteenth century Italy.

Filmed using a non-professional cast made up of mainly local people, director Olmi strived for realism and immerses the audience in their way of life.

Joining with these families we see their love for each other, and as the seasons pass we bear witness to their successes and failures.

Dir: Ermanno Olmi

Cast: Luigi Ornaghi, Francesca Moriggi

Italy 1978, 186mins
