"★★★★ – Movies this rich in observational detail, emotional focus and acting artistry are rare” – Rolling Stone
"Danner gives a classy, restrained performance" – Guardian
When Bridget (Swank) returns to her childhood Chicago home after her ailing mother Ruth (Blythe Danner) wanders out into a blizzard on Christmas Eve, she finds herself caught in a conflict between her father – who is turning a blind eye to his wife’s worsening Alzheimer’s – and her brother (Shannon) who wants to put Ruth in a nursing home.
Facing problems in her own marriage, Bridget begins to compare her relationship with that of her parents and finds it wanting.
A tender – and at times tough – story of the ties that bind, with outstanding performances from its ensemble cast.
