Synopsis

Izumi is a thug and a thief, an urchin who was set adrift by his parents. On the run from the cops he takes to the mountains of Miyazaki in southern Japan where he happens to come to the aid of an older local woman.

Staying at the woman's house he is taken in not only by her, but also by the villagers. Warming to their good nature and simple way of life, can Izumi see a chance at redemption?

Based on the novel "Shabon Dama" by Asa Nonami (published November, 2004 by Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.). A beautifully rendered human drama of crime and redemption, located in a picturesque mountain village in Japan.
