Director Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) continues to add to her impressive CV and Tom Hanks excels in a role he was born to play in this heart-warming and original film based on real-life article by journalist Tom Junod.
Seeing it as beneath him, acclaimed journalist Lloyd Vogel begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece for Esquire on beloved children’s television host Fred Rogers. When they finally meet, the naturally cynical Vogel can’t quite believe the kindly and selfless Mr Rogers is for real. But as time passes, the men become friends and Vogel learns to face up to his traumatic past with a new perspective.
