Director Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Can You Ever Forgive Me?) continues to add to her impressive directorial CV with this heart-warming and original film based on a real article by writer Tom Junod.
Considering it beneath him, acclaimed journalist Lloyd Vogel begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece for Esquire magazine on beloved children’s television host Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks).
When they finally meet, the naturally cynical Vogel can’t quite believe the kindly and selfless Mr Rogers is for real. But as time passes, the men become friends and Vogel learns to face up to his traumatic past with a new perspective.
Tom Hanks excels in a role he was born to play.
