We're very excited to be joined by director Masaya Ozaki for an exclusive Q&A following the screening, conducted by Peter Munford of Satori Screen at Derby QUAD.
Mami (Mugi Kadowaki) is an otaku and a hikikomori ("shut-in"), spending her days in her room drawing and immersed in her favourite manga.
Worried about her future, Mami’s father finds her a part-time job as a videogame tester, where she meets Ryotaro (Miura Takahiro). Encouraged by him to draw game characters for the company, she takes her first tentative steps towards new opportunities.
The film shines a light on the Japanese phenomenon of hikikomori – people who choose to withdraw from society due to social phobia and other reasons.
One of Febuary's MyPhoenix Passport film selection. Members and Friends tickets are £5 – buy your tickets from Box Office to take advantage of this special pricing.
** Please note: this film does not have BBFC certification, and as such can only be screened to over 18s. This does not necessarily indicate that the film contains adult content.**
