Rafiki 12A

Mon 26 & Wed 28 Aug

"Reminiscent of the early work of Spike Lee" – Screen Daily

“A radiant, vivacious portrait of young love” – Washington Post

Screening in the week leading up to Leicester Pride, Rafiki tells the story of Kena and Ziki, two young women who have been told all their lives that “good Kenyan girls become good Kenyan wives.”

When their friendship blooms into love, the pair must choose between their happiness and their safety in an intolerant society.

Banned by the Kenyan government due to its positive depiction of homosexuality, Rafiki has won world-wide acclaim and became the first Kenyan film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
