The Struggle for the Matterhorn TBC

Fri 13 Sep, 8.15pm

In the 1860s the pair attempted to conquer the Matterhorn twice, firstly as part of a joint Italian-British team and then as reluctant competitors.

The film presents a fictional subplot, involving sexual jealousy, stirred up by a malign stepbrother. However the stunning climbing sequences are only too real and must have involved considerable danger for cast and crew alike. Ultimately, the solidarity between the two men and, by extension, European nations is the film’s real message.
