A documentary chronicling the bold and brilliant life of one of music’s most enigmatic and unique stars could never follow the cliche format of talking heads and classic clips, and Moonage Daydream flies far from those expectations. Blending archive footage with dazzling visuals and audio clips of Bowie, as if he’s the narrator rather than the subject, adding to his otherworldly quality - apparent both before and after his passing.

With approval from the Bowie estate, director Brett Morgen was granted rare use of the rockstar’s full back catalogue, including never seen before recordings and footage of some of his greatest hits. Morgen seems to take inspiration from the great musical auteur he documents, weaving and moulding every sound and image into his own cinematic vision, with the help of Bowie’s long time collaborator Tony Visconti.

A truly spectacular piece paying kaleidoscopic tribute to David Bowie, Ziggy Stardust, The Thin White Duke and many more, essential viewing for any Bowie fan.
