In the concluding part of our war on screen series we take a visual tour through contemporary and classic films about the Vietnam War, considering how the conflict changed both cinema and American society itself.

Cinema dealing with the Vietnam experience, on all sides, has continued to ask difficult questions, and wrestle with the moral fallout from a war in which there are not only no clear heroes or villains, but no clear victor. Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Platoon, Heaven & Earth, Born on the Fourth of July – all works that shone a light on not only the war itself, but the lives of those it impacted.

Kenton Hall will be looking at how cinema and television directly influenced our understanding of the Vietnam War and the politics surrounding it, as well as changing our view of war itself.

2.30pm – Revisitation - Modern films about Vietnam

3.30pm – Reinterrogation -  How do films about specific wars reflect on subsequent wars?
