This short course offers a critical introduction to the films of Stanley Kubrick through key concepts in Film Studies, using case studies from across his career, such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon and The Shining. Rather than moving chronologically through each film, the course foregrounds thematic, formal, and theoretical approaches that help us understand Kubrick’s work. The course explores his body of work through four key perspectives: authorship, genre, representation, and spectatorship.
