We love films at Phoenix, from micro-budget foreign pictures to the latest Hollywood blockbuster. Every month, we programme the best new films from around the world, alongside classic movies chosen from the history of moving pictures.
We think watching a film on the big screen – whether with friends, family or by yourself – is one of life’s great pleasures, and that it should remain a uniquely immersive experience without the distraction of people talking and mobile phones.
On a visit to Phoenix you can expect a warm welcome from friendly staff, comfy seats, fairly priced tickets and flawless projection from our in-house team. Whether it’s in crystal-clear digital format, 3D, or glorious 35mm, we care how the image looks on screen. If you see something awry, tell us and we’ll fix it. We’re truly independent at Phoenix, with complete control over what we show.
Our film programme is curated entirely by Phoenix staff who live and work in the area. This means we’re free to screen films which may only attract modest audiences – but would not otherwise be seen in Leicester – through to more mainstream crowd-pleasers playing to a sold-out auditorium.
We show around twenty films across our two screens every month, so everyone should be able to find something of interest. Alongside our core cinema programme we host special events which entertain, educate and involve people in particular themes – local and national festivals, double bills, triple bills and even all-night movie marathons.
Our Stage on Screen programme features productions from National Theatre Live, Bolshoi Ballet, English National Opera and Glyndebourne Opera beamed live onto our big screen – a wonderful way for our customers to conveniently and cheaply catch some of the greatest live shows on earth.
