The University of Leicester’s School of Criminology, Sociology, and Social Policy is partnering with Phoenix to explore representations of crime and justice. This year we are showing Scrapper, a funny and heartwarming story about a girl adjusting to changes in her life.
12-year old Georgie lives alone in the flat she and her recently deceased mother shared. Skipping school and making a living stealing bikes, Georgie's world is rocked by the arrival of her estranged father.
Before the film, there will be a talk by Dr Jessica Urwin about how youth justice is depicted on screen, and why media matters in criminal justice. After the film there will be an audience Q&A with the opportunity to understand more about crime on screen and how this impacts upon our world.
If you’re interested in crime and justice, want the opportunity to discuss some of these issues, or just want to see a really fun film, this event is for you!
