Explore the history of Jane Austen on screen with this 4-week course looking at adaptations of her novels, depictions of her life and times, and the influence she has had on cinema.

The works of Jane Austen have adapted – with various levels of success – many times for film and television. Its style, its values and its humour have been aped, lampooned, celebrated and derided in equal measure. But what has been its lasting impact? Does the visual medium adequately capture the genius at the heart of the original literary pieces? The course aims to explore these questions and more.

Course Breakdown

Week 2: Sense & Sensibility: Comparing and contrasting film and television adaptations.
