Codex Leicester Film Festival

Sat 26 Mar - Sun 3 Apr

Calling all mystery solvers, truth seekers, code breakers and treasure hunters!

What links Leicester to Leonardo da Vinci and Bill Gates? The answer is the Codex Leicester, a 1510 manuscript written by da Vinci detailing his theories of science and the arts. It received its name because it belonged to Thomas Coke, first Earl of Leicester, for hundreds of years. It was later purchased in 1994 by Bill Gates for over $30million.

The historic treatise, written in mirror code, has inspired this festival of films about puzzles, mysteries, and the unknown.

Codex Leicester Film Festival is organised by DMU students in partnership with Phoenix. This festival celebrates Leicester’s illustrious history, and we have partnered with venues around the county to showcase the best of film and the best of Leicester. Check out what’s going on below!
