Frequencies (a) by Canadian artist Nicolas Bernier is an award winning installation of sound and light.

Frequencies (a) by Canadian artist Nicolas Bernier is an award winning installation of sound and light, which was displayed in our gallery as part of VBAB2014.

Winner of the prestigious Golden Nica prize at Ars Electronica, the artwork merges the piercing hum of mechanically triggered tuning forks with pure digital soundwaves.

Streams of light burst in harmony with the forks, alternatively illuminating the exhibition in stark white light and plunging it into complete darkness.

Frequencies (a) continues Nicolas Bernier’s exploration of the relationship between organic sound and digital techniques. This exhibition was curated by Phoenix in partnership with Andrew Hill at the Music, Technology and Innovation Centre at De Montfort University.
