A child uses the makey makey at a family workshop

Talking Portraits

Thu 9 Aug, 12pm – 3pm
In this workshop you can make a self portrait out of card and use it to animate a digital face using the coding language Scratch.

In this workshop we’ll show you how to make a self portrait out of everyday materials – like foil, play-doh, and ordinary pencil lead – that are ‘conductive’, which means tiny amounts of electricity can travel through them.

We’ll be using the Makey Makey – a special device that turns those conductive materials into computer controllers – so you can use your portraits to interact with a digital face made in Scratch, a children’s computer language.

Free, drop-in. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Best for ages 4 – 10.
