Knowing Me, Knowing You – The True Self in Japanese Cinema

Knowing others – let alone ourselves – is not easy. Our behaviour changes depending on the relationship or environment we’re in, and in an age when digital technology allows imagery to be manipulated, it’s even harder to define who we, or others, truly are. This notion of identity is often explored in cinema, but is it really possible to know our true selves?

The Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme returns to Phoenix a part of its UK-wide festival, bringing a collection of films that centred on the theme of the true self and the quest to understand it. From social dramas and laugh-out-loud comedies, to fantasy, horror and classic titles, the 2-month programme has something for everyone!

NOTE: Films without BBFC certification can only be screened to over 18s. This does not necessarily mean that the films contain adult content.
