Hidden Stories uses the latest technology to reimagine the history of Leicester’s Cultural Quarter. Based on award-winning, original writing inspired by the Cultural Quarter, the app connects the stories with the location and history they’re exploring, unlocking content as the user moves around the area. Each piece is enhanced by artwork and animations by Leicester artist Mateus Domingos, creating a fascinating literary exploration of the area.

The five pieces of creative writing used in the app were commissioned and edited by Corinne Fowler, director of the University of Leicester’s Centre for New Writing for the Affective Digital Histories project. We’ve published a book, also called Hidden Stories, to complement the app. The book – edited by Corinne Fowler – is an illustrated collection of all the creative writing commissions from the Affective Digital Histories project, including unabridged versions of the stories from the app, and is on sale now, price £4.
SOUNDS OF THE CULTURAL QUARTER
Sounds of the Cultural Quarter delivers a unique aural experience, immersing the user in sounds from past and present that can be heard individually or as a multi-layered soundscape. Specially recorded sounds – from birdsong to industrial machinery – are activated as users explore the Cultural Quarter, reinterpreting the urban history of the area and bringing it to life in a new and innovative way.
