Launched on 24 September, the new NHS COVID-19 app allows individuals to be notified if they have been in close proximity with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
The government is now encouraging people to download the app, which then acts as a personal tracker that monitors where an individual goes and with whom they interact. The app continually scans for others who have also downloaded and activated the app and are in close proximity (i.e. within 2m distance of them for 15 minutes or more).
There is no requirement to enter personal information to use the app – it is an alert system to let users know if they have potentially come into contact with someone who has tested positive.
Venues have been allocated a unique QR code which must be displayed. Customers who have downloaded the NHS COVID-19 app then scan the venue NHS QR code to log their visit to the venue.
