Riz Ahmed (Mogul Mowgli) is on stunning form as a drummer with hearing loss, in this profound and Oscar-winning film from first-time director Darius Marder.

A drummer in a metal duo with his girlfriend Lou, Ruben’s (Ahmed) life turns upside down when he begins to lose his hearing. Refusing to accept his new reality and convinced he can “fix” his situation, Ruben ends up at a deaf community where his rage clashes with the kindly guidance of compassionate veteran Joe (Paul Raci).

Winner of the Oscar for Best Sound in 2019, the film immerses viewers in Ruben’s journey through hearing loss.

This screening is taking place at Leicester's LCB Depot (31 Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1RE). LCB Depot’s creative programme is run for and by artists, with different themes throughout the year. In September LCB's programme explores the medium of sound.

Part of our 'Phoenix on Tour' programme, taking place across September and October.
