"★★★★★ – There's something truly unearthly about this place of howling winds, yawning chasms and atmosphere thick with temptation" – Time Out

"★★★★★ – Run, don't walk to see this 1947 classic from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger" – Guardian

A group of Anglican nuns open a makeshift convent in the foothills of the Himalayas, but soon find their vows challenged in this new, exotic environment.

Deborah Kerr’s Sister Clodagh experiences a spiritual crisis, while fellow nun Sister Ruth (brilliantly played by Kathleen Byron) becomes erotically obsessed with a British agent, leading to an unforgettable ending.

Screening as part of the major BFI season marking the most extensive celebration of Powell and Pressburger's work even undertaken, bringing a rich catalogue of their visually stunning and often-controversial films back to the big screen.
