Set among a South Asian community in the north of England, the film follows Shikha (Mina Anwar), a Hindu school girl from Lancashire who falls in love with a Muslim boy.


When word of their relationship gets out, her life is threatened and she is forced to flee to London to escape the wrath of her father (Roshan Seth). Finding refuge in a women’s shelter, Shikha discovers newfound freedom, but soon her past catches up with her.


Based on Tanika Gupta’s original screenplay for BBC Two, this taut and absorbing family drama is packed with a talented British-Asian cast and features a score by Nitin Sawhney.


Contains scenes of explicit sex and domestic violence.
