LQFC: Carol 15

★★★★★ – An outstandingly intelligent movie – Guardian.

1953. Christmas in Manhattan. Therese Belivert (Rooney Mara) is working in a large department store during the holiday season, dreaming of a life more fulfilling than the one she has. In walks Carol Aird (Cate Blanchett), a wealthy, married New Yorker, who visits the store to finish her Christmas shopping. When Carol leaves something behind at the counter, it feels like something akin to fate is drawing these women to one another. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, Todd Haynes’s entrancing, sensual, and intelligent adaptation has become a queer Christmas classic.
