Winner of the Jury Prize for Cinematography at Sundance 2023, Mami Wata infuses West African folklore with mesmerising monochrome visuals and crime thriller vibes.
Set in the seaside village of Iyi, Mama Efe acts as an intermediary between the spirit of water goddess Mami Wata and the mortal world, however the death of a young boy casts doubt among the community.
Along with their neighbours, Mama Efe’s daughters begin to question the resistance to modernity in their village, but ultimately must come together to save their people and restore their faith.
