“This restoration is a tribute to all who participated in this venture which was dangerous at the time and to the countless others who fought the oppressive system.” – Oliver Schmitz

After years of suppression, this true classic of guerrilla filmmaking is now available to watch in stunning 4K to mark the 30th anniversary of South African Freedom Day in April.

Small-time crook Panic thinks he sees all the angles, but when he is captured by the authorities, he’s pushed to betray the revolutionaries fighting for change.

Director Oliver Schmitz worked closely with co-writer and lead actor Thomas Mogotlane to produce the film under extreme censorship, bravely creating a radical and rare anti-apartheid feature film.

We are delighted to announce that we will be joined for a post-screening Q&A by director Oliver Schmitz, one of only three Q&A appearances in the UK.

Before the screening we will have a dance performance in our foyer at 6pm.

Mthokozisi Mkhwanazi and Thabang Motaung, company dancers with ACE Dance and Music, will perform a duet from ACE dance and music’s production The Night Before Tomorrow, choreographed by Burkina Faso’s Serge Aimé Coulibaly, which incorporates the Pantsula technique. Delivered in partnership with Dare to Diva Productions and Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage.
